Law Enforcement Trainee
The Law Enforcement Trainee position is for individuals interested in a career as a police officer, but have not yet completed Basic Academy training. Once hired, LETs are enrolled in the 23 week Basic Police Academy where they learn the skills and duties of performing law enforcement functions. While in the Academy, LETs are paid an hourly wage and benefits (currently $32.09 per hour). Upon graduation from the Academy, LETs are promoted to the rank of Police Officer. New Police Officers then complete an additional 19 weeks of field training with an assigned Field Training Officer. After the completion of the field training program, officers are prepared to work alone in the field.

Law Enforcement Lateral
San Bernardino Police Officers enjoy a variety of different duty assignments and work experiences that may not be available at other agencies. With highly-competitive pay, expanded career opportunities, and the chance for upward mobility, lateral officers find the San Bernardino Police Department to be a great choice.
Lateral Officer applicants must be currently employed by a California police agency and must possess a Basic POST certificate.
Lateral Officers may qualify for higher starting pay depending on their law enforcement experience and qualifications. Laterals may also qualify for the accelerated Field Training Program.
